Sagitario Hotels, Award for Responsible Production and Consumption
The Tourism Commission rewards the Circular Economy promoted by the Sagitario Hotels model
We have been integrating the primary sector into tourism for years and offering the best of the Menorcan countryside through our hotel establishments. This way of working, which the founder of our company, Sebastià Triay Fayas, implemented a long time ago, is now called Circular Economy. And it is precisely this aspect of our DNA that has earned Sagitario Hotels the recognition of the Balearic business sector. A Christmas gift that arrived in advance and that we now want to share with all of you.
Sagitario values, fashionable thanks to sustainability
At a gala held on December 21 in Palma de Mallorca, our founder received the award from the Tourism Commission for "his defense, protection and care of the Menorcan countryside", honoring the 12th Sustainable Development Goal of the United Nations. But what exactly does it mean to win such an award? In the case of Sagitario Hotels, the recognition of having done things well, even before we all started talking about sustainability. To commit to local produce, to what is grown on our land -in the case of Sagitario Hotels, from the three farms or "llocs" that we own and with which we supply our hotel establishments, Biniatzem, Son Marc and S'Aranjassa. We get the most out of these three farms by growing seasonal vegetables and fruit, raising livestock to ensure the best quality meat, and making cheese, so popular on the island, in the traditional way. In short, for promoting work and employment in two sectors as far apart as the countryside and tourism. And that they have been the winning combination in the eyes of the CAEB Tourism Commission.
The Sustainable Development Goals
Sustainability extends its roots beyond the environmental factor. It is in this sense that the United Nations set up to 17 Sustainable Development Goals -or OSD for its acronym in English-, which encourage companies, organizations and institutions to promote more sustainable practices in many ways. Among them, promoting the Circular Economy through responsible production and consumption, which has earned Sagittarius Hotels the award.
The 12th is not the only objective that is present in the daily management of Sagittarius Hotels. The use of non-polluting energies to supply our hotels, the reduction of inequalities with the hiring of people with functional diversity, or the preservation of clean water and sanitation are also pillars that define our way of being.
